The EU has been modeling the situation in Kosovo for years. So the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, commented on the statement of Serbian Prime Minister Anna Brnabic that the country is on the brink of war because of the Kosovo prime minister and the inaction of the European Union.

“Well, why ‘inaction’. This is exactly the situation that the EU has essentially been modeling for years”– Zakharova wrote in her Telegram channel.

On December 6, it was reported that Kosovo was going to apply for EU membership at the end of the year.

On December 10, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced that his country would soon publish the notes of those states that decided to revoke Kosovo’s previously recognized independence.

Aggravation of the situation with Kosovo

In early July, after the forced re-registration of Serbian numbers and documents by the Kosovo Albanian authorities, the situation in Pristina escalated. Popular unrest began in Kosovo, but it was soon decided to postpone the re-registration procedure until September 1.

In mid-August, Vučić said that Serbia did not intend to conduct a military operation in Kosovo, and stressed that he hoped for a peaceful settlement of the conflict and expressed hope for a rational solution of contradictions in the dialogue mode.

On August 22, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the interests of Serbia must be taken into account when resolving the conflict in Kosovo.

A little later, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, emphasized that Russia would continue to consider Kosovo as part of Serbia.
