Tesla unveils its new energy storage, the largest in Europe (video)

The batteries have a total capacity of 100 MWh and a power of 50 MW. They will replace the WWII era turbo generator.

Tesla Energy introduced the largest energy storage Megapact in Continental Europe, located in Belgium. The company has published the details at: twitter.

The facility in Lessines, commissioned by the Deux-Acren project, consists of 40 Megapack units with a total capacity of 100 MWh and a power of 50 MW. The technology allows energy companies to better utilize renewable energy sources such as solar and stabilize the grid. The Tesla warehouse is intended to replace a WWII-era turbojet generator that has been providing continuous power to the city since the 1950s.

According to the Electrek website, Tesla has been rapidly growing its energy business lately and has been receiving a large number of orders for the Megapack. Last quarter, the company used a record high battery capacity (2.1 GWh), mainly driven by Megapack production.

Tesla currently produces 42 Megapacks per week and is expected to break the record soon, with a factory capable of fulfilling even more orders. Tesla has also accelerated the production of Powerwall home batteries and further accelerated the adoption of new technologies.

In November, they wrote that the UK has finished construction of its Pillswood storage facility, which should be the largest in Europe. It consists of 43 Tesla Megapacks with a total capacity of 196 MWh and a capacity of up to 98 MW. The facility is expected to be able to support the operation of the Dogger Bank wind farm in East Yorkshire and simultaneously power 300,000 homes.

Meanwhile, a 600 MWh virtual power plant is being built in the USA. It connects homes with Powerwalls and solar panels to keep the grid running and reduce energy costs.
