Scientists want climate change warnings to appear on fast food menus

Devastating global warming continues to affect the planet in the form of heat, rain and even extreme winter storms, so some scholars suggest the use of stamps warning that the consumption of certain foods contributes to this phenomenon.

In a study published in JAMA Network Open, a group of American researchers tried to include climate change warnings in the menu fast food, such as beef burgers.

Scientists have found that Fast food labels encouraged people to make more sustainable food choices. and it helps fight the global warming that the planet is suffering from.

The investigation proved that show participants the red environmental impact stamp on beef dishes, almost a quarter of people refused them compared to those who did not see the warning.

They also found that ecological wine was more efficient than the green “good for the planet” label that only encouraged a tenth of people to choose more sustainable food.

For research, diners were asked to rate their choice of food with seven points depending on how healthy he was.

Research results

The results showed that those in the green label group who chose the option that is good for the planet they were more likely than participants in the control group to rate their food as healthier.

And this despite none of the items on the fast food menu were actually healthy.

“The results of this randomized clinical trial show that sustainability labels on fast food menus (with positive and negative frames) encouraged more sustainable food choices compared to control labels,” the study concluded.

Research also shows that sustainability labels, especially those with a positive backbone and low climate impact, can give an undeserved health halo effect to unhealthy foods.

Studies offers further exploration of the use of various labels promote sustainable nutrition that helps fight global warming.

” future research should explore different label designs promote sustainable food choices and evaluate the impact on the sustainability and healthfulness of food choices in fast food restaurants and other locations.
