Los Angeles County Health Authorities reported more than 9,000 new COVID cases from December 24 to this Wednesdayin addition to registering 60 disease-related deaths.

County Department of Public Health There were 3257 cases on Saturday, 1932 on Sunday, 1137 on Monday, 668 on Tuesday and 2138 on Wednesday.for a total of 9.132 infections.

The new cases gave the county an official total of 3,624,419 for the entire pandemic.

The daily official numbers of infections are believed to be underestimated. because many residents take tests at home without reporting their results, and many other people do not get tested at all.

With 60 deaths recorded over a five-day period, the county’s total death toll has reached 34,619.

As of Wednesday, the seven-day average daily rate of people testing positive for the virus was 15%.compared to 11.7% a week ago.

As for the number of hospitalizations, 1,195 people were registered this Wednesday.for 1256, which were held a week ago.

Health officials estimate that about 40% of patients with the virus have been hospitalized with coronavirus-related symptoms, while others have been hospitalized for a variety of reasons, with many only knowing they were infected before they were hospitalized.

Although the number of cases has declined in recent weeks, health officials warned last week that “death rates … continue to rise in Los Angeles County, especially among the elderly.”

“Health officials are concerned that travel and gatherings during the holidays will lead to increased transmission of infection and serious illness, placing additional strain on the county’s hospitals and health care system,” health officials said Friday.

The Department of Public Health has urged city residents to exercise caution during the holiday season. and put in place “layers” of protection to reduce the risk of contracting COVID.

Last week, Los Angeles County moved from a “high” to a “medium” infection category in accordance with the recommendations of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
