Trump calls Republicans ‘swindlers’ who refused to support McCarthy during the 14th round of voting

The vote for the new speaker of the House of Representatives turned into a real soap opera after “rebellious” Republicans stood their ground and refused to vote for Kevin McCarthy, who came close to rising as the new speaker more than once.

Former US President, Donald Trumpasked through his social network to “vote for Kevin”, but his call was ignored, but what some Republican “rebels” apparently could not ignore was the call that the presidential candidate also made to them during the 14th round of voting.

It is reported by The New York Times. Donald Trump called Representative Matt Gaetz, who chaired a caucus of McCarthy’s opponents after voting for “in attendance” rather than “McCarthy”, costing the current Speaker of the House a victory.

According to the aforementioned media, a call from Trump could influence Gaetz to agree to continue with another round of voting. which McCarthy ultimately won after nearly four days of suffering from a sledgehammer.

CNN reported that Trump Calls Rep. Andy Biggs, who, like Goetz, said “present” on the 15th ballot instead of voting against McCarthy. The last Republican opponents to switch to “current ballot” lowered the threshold of votes needed to win and allowed McCarthy to win the seat.

McCarthy had nothing but praise for Trump after the closing of the House “I think no one should doubt his influence. He was with me from the very beginning.” He added that the former president was “all in” and “called me and called others” “helping get those final votes.”

Trump posted a pro-McCarthy message on Truth Social shortly after the final vote: “The ‘speaker’ selection process, as crazy as it sounds, made it much bigger and more important than if it had been done in a more traditional way. Congratulations to Kevin McCarthy and our great Republican Party!”.
