“He needs his victories”: Gerasimov will do anything to neutralize Prigogine – GUR

According to Ukrainian intelligence spokesman Andriy Chernyak, a deep focus on military operations on Ukrainian soil is one way the Wagner Group head will survive.

Russian businessman and owner of Wagner Group Yevgeny Prigozhin is trying to strengthen his position in the business world with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Andriy Chernyak, representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, stated this in a comment to the RBC-Ukraine agency. Initially, the text was also published on the GUR website, but later it was deleted – it was preserved only in the archive.

According to Chernyak, due to the war crimes of the “Wagnerists” in Syria and some African countries, Western countries do not want anything to do with the Russian businessman.

“He has become a poisonous face for the entire civilized world,” said the intelligence official.

According to Chernyak, therefore, Prigozhin focused all his attention on the war in Ukraine, which gives him and his people the opportunity to occupy the main positions in Putin’s circle.

“These are the steps for his survival – to strengthen his position and then take up high positions,” he emphasizes.

Ukrainian intelligence also believes that a fierce struggle is underway in the Kremlin for power and a place on the side of the President of the Russian Federation. Prigozhin himself is trying to position himself as a “winner”, while Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and the Russian General Staff are trying to maintain a good relationship with Putin and raise their own ratings. Internal strife also affects the mood of society in the aggressor country – military leadership is openly criticized for failures at the front.

Chernyak is confident that after the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov became the commander of the Joint Occupation Forces Group in Ukraine, he will do everything to neutralize Prigozhin.

“Him [Герасимову] his own achievements and victories are needed, and he will do everything to neutralize Prigogine. These are sensible decisions,” added the intelligence official.

Recall that the Ukrainian OSINT community Molfar published a detailed profile of the owner of the Wagner Group and businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin. Analysts write in their investigation that the restaurateur and Putin’s ally began his career as a petty criminal – robbing apartments and people on the streets. And Prigozhin built his first capital in St. Petersburg by selling hot dogs.
