According to Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, the weapons of Ukraine’s partners should be solidarity. Warsaw plans to transfer PT-91 tanks to Kiev, which are modified versions of the Soviet T-72M1.
Poland plans to transfer 14 Leopard-2 tanks and 60 modernized Polish tanks, including 30 PT-91, to Kiev. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki mentioned this in an interview with Canadian television station CTV News on January 27.
The head of the Polish government commented, “Russia’s weapon is fear. Solidarity should be our weapon.”
He noted that Warsaw was the first to send 250 tanks to Kiev, and now the state is ready to join the tank coalition for Ukraine.
In addition to the 14 Leopard-2s, the government is ready to procure 60 upgraded tanks from its warehouses.
As Morawiecki explained, the Russian Federation has a tank arsenal of several thousand units, and according to some sources – up to 15 thousand.
“If we do not want Ukraine to be defeated, we must be very open and bold in our support,” said the Polish prime minister.
The PT-91 is a Polish main battle tank based on a licensed version of the Soviet T-72M1.
Recall that in an Air Force report from Bakhmut published on January 17, a fighter from the Armed Forces of Ukraine spoke about the importance of Western armored vehicles for Ukraine. The 55-year-old crew commander of the T-72 tank stated that the army had to use outdated weapons. “I drove one of these cars almost 40 years ago. I can’t believe I’m doing this again, but it works,” he explained.
