Envelopes with explosives being sent in Spain: Interior Ministry says it found suspect at home

Spanish police discovered a bomb-making workshop in the home of a 74-year-old man accused of sending 6 letters containing explosives to senior diplomatic and government officials. He writes about the Associated Press.

Spain’s National Court said earlier that it had been charged with six crimes for sending bomb letters to the retired country’s prime minister and the US and Ukrainian embassies in Madrid.

The publication states that the suspect appeared in court on Friday, January 27. Objects were found in his apartment that suggest he made the bombs himself.

“Inspectors found a workshop inside the house with tools, welding, metal elements and screws,” the Spanish Interior Ministry said in a statement.

The suspect is reportedly preparing to send a new batch of letters filled with explosives.

Recall that the man was arrested on Wednesday, January 25. The man was arrested in the city of Miranda de Ebro in Burgos state.
