Vice writes that Dutch police have managed to crack the Exclu encrypted messaging service, which is very popular with local criminals. Cyber ​​experts infiltrated the company’s servers and monitored all correspondence between various criminal organizations in the country.

As a result, 49 people were arrested in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and other EU countries and 79 people were searched. According to law enforcement officials, they patiently followed all the correspondence for six months and collected evidence for future arrests. According to some reports, most of those arrested were drug lab operators, whose luxury items were seized as well as large quantities of drugs, weapons and cash (worth 4.3m euros).

Exclu messenger has positioned itself as a private messaging software that uses all encryption tools and the encrypted files themselves are stored only on the user’s devices. The company estimated its services at 900 euros for a six-month subscription.

Meanwhile, it is not the first time that Dutch police have carried out such high-profile operations to hack secret encrypted services. Prior to that, law enforcement had been involved in hacking and shutdowns against companies like Ennetcom and Sky.
