In a statement, the representative’s chief of staff, Nick Coe, said the attack did not appear to be politically motivated.

The attack took place in the elevator of the building around 7:15 am and left Craig’s minor injurieswho then called 911, but the assailant fled.

Craig’s representative was attacked this morning at around 7:15 a.m. in the elevator of the building where her apartment is located. “Representative Craig fought off the attacker and was injured but physically fine.

In front of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Station, Craig saw the assailant acting “erratic”, apparently under the influence of some substance.

The representative would greet the subject, who followed her to the elevator and began attacking her with a punch to the chin.

senator Amy Klobuchar (MN) mentioned Craig’s situation.

“She went straight to Congress this morning and was in the Senate meeting with the governor, me and several members of our delegation about legislation for the residents of her district,” Klobuchar tweeted.

Other members of Congress, such as Democratic Rep. Yvette Clark (NY), joined Craig in solidarity over the attack.
