US announces readiness for dialogue with Russia on START

Washington is ready for a dialogue with Moscow regarding the Strategic Offensive Arms Treaty (START). This was stated by US Deputy Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Affairs Bonnie Jenkins.

“Our goal is to make it clear that we are ready to meet with them (the Russians. — Approx. ed.) when they are ready. It’s a pity that they link this to what is happening in Ukraine”she said during a special briefing.

The diplomat stressed the importance of the implementation of the agreement for US national security.

Jenkins noted that Washington hopes to separate the discussion of this issue from the Ukrainian conflict. She also expressed interest in restoring contacts with Russia in order to return to the negotiating table on strategic stability and resume inspections.

Earlier, the United States called on Russia to let American inspectors in under the New START.
