The failure of the tank coalition: NATO will not deliver the promised weapons to Kyiv

Deliveries of tanks to Ukraine, promised a month ago, today, for the second day in a row, are being discussed at the Ramstein base by NATO defense ministers. It is already clear that many difficulties have suddenly arisen in this matter. The German Defense Minister stunned Kyiv with a statement that only a dozen and a half leopards could be sent to Ukraine, but not the 200 they were counting on. European Correspondent “Izvestia” Vitaly Chashchukhin figured out why it happened.

They beat themselves with a fist in the chest, but they could not put together a tank coalition against Russia. Josep Borrell’s cry of desperation has been heard from Brussels today.

“I sent a message to all European countries that have modern and efficient tanks that are gathering dust in warehouses and do not bring any benefit. Give them to Ukraine and as soon as possible,” Borrell said.

Instead of hundreds of promised Leopards, there are only a few. Germany still gives only 14 pieces, Spain – from 4 to 6, Poland – 14, Canada – 4, Portugal – 3, Norway – 8.

And Denmark and the Netherlands are generally zero. After “careful coordination” with Germany, they generally decided not to transfer their “Leopards” to Ukraine, offering to pay off with money. And those will go to repair 100 tanks from the stocks of German industry. That is, not even new ones are transmitted, but junk.

“In addition to the fact that the supply of heavy weapons to Ukraine was initially counterproductive, they will only prolong the war, so they could not fulfill their own promises. No quick deliveries happened,” – said the deputy of the Bundestag Steffen Kotre.

It was not enough to persuade Germany to send its tanks from all over Europe again against the Russians. Now the head of the German Defense Ministry is personally trying all over the world to collect these really pieced copies.

“In addition to Germany’s commitment to supply 14 Leopard 2A6 main battle tanks, only Portugal has announced the delivery of three of these tanks. Additional deliveries of the A6 model are not being discussed at the moment. A Polish colleague is now engaged in the A4 models, and you should ask him for the current status. And there too not to say very heady success, to put it mildly”– said the head of the Ministry of Defense of Germany.

In the same way, the so-called coalition is already avoiding the topic of aviation in every possible way. Ukraine will not see the long-awaited German tanks, nor fighters. But in terms of the transfer of American weapons, the Germans do not fail. The port cities of Germany these days have become a kind of springboard for military assistance to Ukraine.
