A petition has been registered on the website of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky demanding that Victory Day on May 9 be kept as a public holiday.

“Cancellation of the celebration of May 9 in Ukraine is another attempt to implement the idea of total dismantling of historical memory. This cannot be allowed!” — stated in the text of the petition.

The author of the petition expressed the opinion that May 9 in Ukraine should remain an official holiday and non-working day.

In early January 2023, it was reported that a monument to the Hero of the Soviet Union Alexander Matrosov was demolished in the Ukrainian Dnieper.

On February 9, it became known that in Ukraine, a monument to the liberator of Kyiv from the Nazis, Nikolai Vatutin, was being demolished for four hours.
