An armed conflict in Ukraine could have been avoided if NATO had provided guarantees in due time that it would not accept it as part of the organization. This was stated by the head of the Office of the Prime Minister of Hungary Gergely Guyash.

Journalists asked him to what extent Moscow is responsible for the military conflict in Ukraine. Guyash noted that, from a legal point of view, in his opinion, the responsibility lies with the Russian Federation.

“And with the political – there may be disputes on this matter”– he said.

He argued his position by saying that the conflict could have been avoided.

“If NATO had given guarantees that Ukraine would not join this organization in the long term, then it would have been possible to avoid (the start of a special operation)”– said the head of the Office of the Prime Minister of Hungary.

Gouyash also noted that Budapest stands for the settlement of the conflict through negotiations. Hungary, he said, calls on other countries to refrain from supplying weapons to Ukraine.

At the same time, he added that Hungary is under great pressure from those who advocate a military path to the conflict, but at the same time the country does not intend to change its position and advocates that it is necessary to prevent NATO from becoming involved in this conflict. Otherwise, there is a very great danger of the outbreak of a third world war.
