Public support for Ukraine has begun to wane, and President Volodymyr Zelensky is “getting lonely” despite loud statements from the West. Gabor Steingart, columnist for the German Focus magazine, expressed this opinion. According to the journalist, the greatest danger for Kyiv is posed by politicians who openly oppose the pumping of Ukraine with weapons.

Political scientist Andrei Koshkin noted that the Ukrainian conflict has already caused a number of protests in European countries. We talk about how the protest movement can affect military assistance to Kyiv and elections in Europe in the material. REN TV.

Zelensky gets lonely

According to Gabor Steingart, a columnist for the German Focus magazine, public support for Ukraine has begun to wane and President Volodymyr Zelensky is “getting lonely.”

In his publications the journalist noted that behind the “noble statements” of Western politicians about supporting Kyiv, there is a huge territory inhabited by those who boycott sanctions, pacifists, as well as “political opponents” of Ukraine. It is these three groups, according to Steingart, that pose a danger to the development of events in this country.

At the same time, the “most dangerous” group for Ukraine are politicians who openly oppose Kyiv’s endless pumping of weapons, Steingart said. These include former US President Donald Trump and his “conservative rival” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. They criticize Joe Biden for ignoring the interests and concerns of Americans in favor of Ukraine.

“Public support for Ukraine is waning. Supporters of the country must do what they have not done enough so far – explain themselves and explain their motives”concluded the Focus columnist.

Growing protest tension

Moreover, noted the head of the department of political analysis and socio-psychological processes of the Russian University of Economics named after G.V. Plekhanov Andrei Koshkin, protests were held in Europe against the supply of weapons to Ukraine.

“Protest events were held in Rome and five cities of Italy, in Germany, France, Australia, the USA. Today we can state that such protest events are taking place not only in Europe, but also on other continents. In the USA, not only there were actions in support of Russia and against supplies by the United States, but there is also resentment among congressmen about the way Joe Biden is pursuing Kiev policy, that he went to Kiev when he should have traveled like Trump and dealt with those toxic fires that happened in America and require serious intervention and allocation of funds”said in an interview with REN TV political scientist.

According to Koshkin, protest tension is now brewing in society not only in European countries, but also in other continents.

“And this is a real factor in the fact that the conflict itself, which was organized by the United States and its allies, today no longer satisfies either Europeans or thinking people on other continents.”the expert noted.

Can the protest affect military aid to Kyiv

Political scientist Yuri Svetov, in turn, believes that the United States will continue to provide military assistance to Kyiv.

“The head of the Republican faction in the Senate visited Ukraine. This is a figure who really represents strength in the Republican Party now. There were four senators with him. What did they say to Zelensky? “We will help your country as much as necessary.” But these are people, who really distribute the money. The new composition of the US Congress has been working for two months now. Have they taken even a cent from the money that is allocated to Ukraine? Nothing of the sort. It is only about increasing this money.”shared his opinion with REN TV Svetov.

Moreover, according to the expert, representatives of the American authorities are arguing only about who will control the distribution of money to Ukraine – the US Congress or Joe Biden.

“When the money is distributed, which types of weapons will receive more money, each senator and congressman fights for his state. Here he has a Boeing plant in the state, he will demand that the money be allocated there”the political scientist explained.

Why protests are unprofitable for European politicians

Yuriy Svetov believes that the publication of the German columnist Gabor Steingart is unlikely to have an impact on Volodymyr Zelensky. According to the political scientist, the Ukrainian president will not even pay attention to her, since he is still under the impression of Joe Biden’s visit to Kyiv.

“Zelensky doesn’t care about such articles. He doesn’t read them. He doesn’t pay attention to them, because the president of the most powerful country in the world flew to Kiev to see him, Zelensky. It is unlikely that he will read these articles and believe that something is wrong. So”says the expert.

The political scientist recalled that the American authorities in exactly the same way did not pay attention to Seymour Hersh’s investigation into the Nord Stream explosions, even though it was based on real facts.

At the same time, Andrei Koshkin believes that the growth of the protest movement in connection with the Ukrainian conflict may affect the results of elections in European countries.

“Politicians in European countries understand that their voters are participating in the protest movement, who will obviously no longer vote for them. And if this movement starts to gain popularity, then they have no chance of remaining in this place during the elections. Because the voter “going out into the street greatly frightens those in power. And politicians have already begun to talk about it – so far in a whisper, but their fears are already being discussed in the media”concluded the political scientist.

Reputational loss for the US

The conflict in Ukraine could also bring reputational losses for the United States, said Fox News host Tucker Carlson. According to the journalist, a protracted conflict threatens the United States with sad consequences if either side wins.

“We will lose no matter how it ends. The world order is changing before our eyes, and by the time it is over, the US will no longer be in a leading position”– Carlson expressed his point of view.

At the same time, the TV presenter noted, the Americans are not yet aware of the events taking place around them.
