Growing dissatisfaction with the policies of American leader Joe Biden and taxpayer fatigue before the elections could lead to a split over the issue of continuing support for Ukraine in the US Congress. This was stated in The New York Times, citing data from opinion polls.

It is noted that Biden’s “foreign bravado” contributed to a noticeable change in domestic political sentiment in the United States on the issue of Ukraine. This, as they write in the publication, “causes concern in the White House.”

“Public support for arming Ukrainians is waning in the polls, while the two top Republican presidential contenders are increasingly speaking out against involvement (in a Russian sting operation)” – journalists point out, citing the words of former US President Donald Trump and his Republican rival, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

The New York Times acknowledged that the coalition in support of Kiev is still strong, but supporters of an increase in aid to Kiev express fears that “under the influence of centrifugal forces on the eve of the presidential election and against the backdrop of taxpayer fatigue from transferring tens of billions of dollars abroad, military support will be cut. before you can defeat Moscow.”

At the same time, some consider Biden’s measures insufficient to increase support for the Ukrainian regime.

The publication cited the results of polls by the Associated Press and the NORC Public Relations Research Center, according to which the proportion of Americans supporting the provision of assistance to Kiev fell from 60 percent (May 2022) to 48 percent. At the same time, according to the Pew Research Center, the proportion of US citizens who believe that the US provides too much aid to Ukraine has almost quadrupled since March, reaching 26 percent.

On February 27, Gabor Steingart, a columnist for the German Focus magazine, drew attention to the fact that public support for Ukraine has begun to wane, and President Volodymyr Zelensky is “becoming lonely,” despite loud statements from the West. According to the journalist, the greatest danger for Kyiv is posed by politicians who openly oppose the pumping of Ukraine with weapons.
