US intelligence agency fears that Russia will again try to influence the elections

US intelligence agencies found out that Russia carried out malicious operations to influence the US elections mid 2022 and what they are afraid he will do it again this year.

According to the report US Intelligence Community Annual Threat Assessment, Moscow seeks to ‘strengthen ties’ with Americans in media and politics, working to conduct “future operations of influence”

A publication released by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence highlights that before the midterm elections in November last year, investigators identified Russian attempts to prevent the use of social media accounts posing as Americans to stir up partisan anger and undermine confidence in the electoral process.

According to the assessment, Moscow “activates such content to further penetrate the Western news environment” by creating original content or using pre-existing divisive discourses.

These activities may include dissemination of false content and amplification of information perceived as beneficial to Russian influence efforts or conspiracy theories,” the report says.

The report also notes that “Russian influencers adapted their efforts to hide their hand more and moreusing “a vast ecosystem of Russian proxy sites, individuals and organizations that appear to be independent news sources.”

Russia backs Trump

The intelligence community determined that in 2016 the Russian president, Vladimir Putin ordered a campaign to influence the elections that year with a “clear preference” for then-candidate Donald Trump, who would eventually win that contest.

Already as president, Trump questioned Russian interference in the 2016 elections. However, during a meeting with Putin in 2018, Trump indicated that he believes the statement of the Russian leaderor that the Kremlin stayed out of the 2016 race—essentially supporting Putin’s stance on the assessment of his own intelligence community. Trump later retracted those statements.
