Luis Alfonso, a Colombian with a farmer’s heart

About a year ago, Luis Alfonso passed the test by fire. He went to Guadalajara, Mexico for a friend’s wedding, and when the mariachis arrived, he began to sing. The next day he visited Tequila, the city where the drink of the same name is made, and the same thing happened; Luis Alfonso has interpreted several ranchers.

There would be nothing unusual about these events, and perhaps the people who heard it would not be so impressed if it were not for the fact that Luis Alfonso is a Colombian.

“People couldn’t believe he was Colombian,” said Luis Alfonso, whose footage of the events went viral. “[Pero] A Mexican is born anywhere.”

That same week, Luis Alfonso was invited to a popular television program and he took the opportunity to propose a press conference he hadn’t planned.

“We went to meet and, by the way, to make a little statement about ourselves,” he said.

Mariachi music is not new in the life of this artist, who now lives in Medellin. He says he grew up watching the films of Pedro Infante, Vicente Fernandez and Jorge Negrete, where these artists usually performed ranchera songs.

“I am passionate about vintage ranchers,” he said. “This passion later became my vocation. […] Now I represent this genre in my style, between popular and modern.

The person responsible for this love of Mexican cinema was his maternal grandfather, and Luis Alfonso was amazed to see the actors arrive on their horses to conquer the woman singing on the balcony with their guitars.

“I’ve always been an old soul,” he said, “[Soy un] more than anything in the world is passionate about Mexican music, culture and traditions.”

On the day of the interview, Luis Alfonso toured various US cities including Tampa, Atlanta, Miami, Palm Beach, Orlando and San Jose. He was surprised to see Mexicans, Colombians, Puerto Ricans and Spaniards in the hall.

The artist came to present songs from his latest album “La terraza”, which he recorded live, which is very popular among some artists, including Grupo Firme. He also featured songs from El señorazo, an album of unreleased songs he will release this week that includes several collaborations.

After this visit, Luis Alfonso hopes to return to the United States to visit other cities and show his Mexican Colombian side.
