Turkish National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar commented on the possibility of opening the straits for the US Navy so that Washington could find a drone that fell into the Black Sea. He noted that Ankara is following the developments.

“There are various contacts, including between structures in Turkey itself. We are striving to find a reasonable and logical solution with partners from the United Statese– quoted the minister in the Anadolu agency.

Akar stressed that the country is in favor of a peaceful solution to the situation.

When asked whether Ankara could allow the passage of US military ships for US search operations, the minister noted that his department is working with the Defense Ministry and interacting with the presidential administration.

“Next steps to be clarified shortly”he added.

Earlier, retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman expressed concern that Russia could pick up the wreckage of an MQ-9 drone shot down in the sky over the Black Sea and thus gain access to American technology.

White House strategic communications coordinator John Kirby also told CNN that Washington is doing everything to prevent a downed drone from falling into the wrong hands. At the same time, he doubted that the United States would be able to find the drone that fell into the Black Sea.

Western media, and then representatives of the State Department and the White House, without giving details, on March 14 announced an incident with a Russian fighter jet and an American UAV in the sky over the Black Sea. The US military hastened to lay the blame for the downing of the drone on Russia without evidence.

The Russian Defense Ministry noted that an American MQ-9 drone flying towards the Russian border in the Crimean region collided with water itself, the Aerospace Forces fighters did not come into contact with it.

The defense department stressed that the transponder was turned off on the American drone. Also, the aircraft violated the borders of the area of the temporary regime for the use of airspace, established for the purpose of conducting a special operation, communicated to all users of international airspace and published in accordance with international standards.
