Turkey at the end of last week resumed the transit of sanctioned goods to Russia with a number of restrictions. While goods made in the USA and Canada, as well as some categories, are not available.

“Since Friday, agents in Turkey have been reporting that the transit clearance system is working”– quotes the president of the customs and logistics broker KBT Yulia Shlenskaya “Kommersant”.

Other interlocutors of the newspaper confirmed this information and added that most of the problems have already been eliminated. Operations are proceeding normally.

The current restrictions are caused by the promise of the Turkish authorities to Washington not to allow circumvention of anti-Russian sanctions.

On March 20, Western media reported on a list of goods that are prohibited for transit in Russia. The existence of the document was explained by the fact that Ankara is afraid of a confrontation with the European Union, which accounts for about half of Turkish exports.

Recall, on the evening of March 9, it became known that Turkey blocked the transit of goods that are supplied through parallel import channels.

Russian media, citing industry representatives, said that official orders on this matter should not be expected. Allegedly, in this case, Ankara admits that it helped Russia.

Note that in the spring of 2022, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that the country would not join the unilateral anti-Russian sanctions.
