Calvey trial postponed to April 21

The court hearing in the case of American investor Michael Calvey was postponed to April 21, the correspondent reported. “Izvestia” from the courtroom.

The meeting was decided to be postponed due to the need to familiarize the defendants with the complaint: they will be given time to translate and study the materials. It is noted that the preventive measure in the form of a ban on certain actions was removed from the investor at the beginning of 2022. Now he is having trouble getting a visa. Calvey’s lawyer Timofey Gridnev assures that, in spite of everything, his client is going to take part in the trial.

Earlier on March 24, it became known that Calvey did not appear in court.

Recall that the defendants in the case of embezzlement of 2.5 billion rubles from Vostochny, in addition to Calvey, were fund partners Philippe Delpal and Vagan Abgaryan, investment director of the fund Ivan Zyuzin, former director of Vostochny bank Alexei Kordichev, former managing director for investments of the bank Alexander Tsakunov and director of the company “First Collection Bureau” Maxim Vladimirov.

According to the IC, Calvey misled the board of directors of the bank and developed a scheme according to which a loan in the amount of 2.5 billion rubles was received by the First Collection Bureau of the PKB from Vostochny. He was credited with the assignment of shares, the real value of which was 600 thousand rubles.

The court found all defendants guilty of the case and gave them suspended sentences. Calvey was sentenced to five and a half years of probation. Other defendants in the case received from 3.5 to 5 years probation. All were placed on probation for 5 years. In addition, Calvey is prohibited from leaving Russia for five years without the permission of the authorities.

Note that at the beginning of 2022, the court canceled the preventive measure against Calvey. Then he left Russia legally. Now he is trying to get a visa in order to take part in the trial.
