Christo Zhivkov, actor of The Passion of the Christ, has died at the age of 48.

Bulgarian-born actor Hristo Zhivkov passed away on April 1 at the age of 48 after a long battle with lung cancer. He gained world fame in 2004 due to the fact that he played the role of the apostle John in “Passion of the Christ”director’s film Mel Gibson which became one of the most viewed in the history of cinema.

Zhivkov was born in Sofia in 1975. He studied acting at the Bulgarian Film and Theater Academy, and shortly after graduating as a film director he got the opportunity to act in films. “Weapon Profession”, which received rave reviews in 2002. This caught the attention of Gibson, who selected him for a role in a feature he was preparing about the life of Jesus, in which he Jim Caviezel And Monica Bellucci.

A few months ago, various media outlets reported that Mel Gibson is working on a sequel to The Passion of the Christ, which could begin filming this spring; Apparently Hristo Zhivkov will be back to interpret the character he played in the 2004 film.
