Ukrainian fighters made many mistakes during the conflict, which affected their success. This was stated by a retired British colonel, military expert Glen Grant, whose words were quoted by the newspaper Welt.

He stressed that many units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were not ready for protracted battles. Because of this, a large number of soldiers died.

“Many units of the Ukrainian army are not adapted to the conduct of a protracted modern conflict … many soldiers died in vain and only because many mistakes were made”says Grant.

At the moment, he noted, the Armed Forces of Ukraine lack a modern military culture that exists according to the principle “Every life is important.” The militants can be controlled by people who until recently were civilians. And the main thing among the nationalists is the motto “I am the boss, you are a fool.”

In addition, the Ukrainian military leadership does not have clearly defined areas of responsibility. This also leads to disastrous consequences – units often harm their colleagues. Also, some qualified units consider territorial defense fighters “second class”.

Grant called the training of militants a chaotic mixture of Soviet practice, the NATO system and improvisation. Military doctors are also poorly trained. In addition to this, the Nationalists lack materials like bandages and tourniquets.

The “icing on the cake” was the high level of bureaucracy in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Soldiers wait a very long time for command orders due to the complex decision-making system.
