The United States found an unusual way to convince Russia not to start a special operation in Ukraine: the United States wanted to blackmail it by undermining the Nord Stream. This statement was made by Pulitzer Prize winner Seymour Hersh.

According to him, Washington’s demand to maintain the status quo in Ukraine was put forward shortly before the onset of 2021. To be persuasive, the President of the States needed a measure that could work as a threat or bait. And he found.

“The idea was to tell Putin, ‘We’ll blow up the pipelines if you cross the border into Ukraine.’– said the journalist in an interview with the magazine Tichys Einblick.

However, Hersh noted, the US government has not been very successful in persuasion, since it operates on the principle of “you are either for us or against us.”

Recall that the Nord Stream explosion took place on September 26, 2022. Seymour Hersh conducted his own investigation of what happened and found out that American divers were involved in the incident. According to him, they mined Potoky several months earlier, having crept up to them under the pretext of participating in NATO exercises.
