Former President of Moldova Igor Dodon said that on May 9 he was going to put on the St. George ribbon, despite the threats of the country’s authorities to fine him for it.

The ex-head of the country, during a speech on the GRT TV channel, called Prime Minister Dorin Recean’s threat to fine citizens for wearing the St. George ribbon illegal.

“I don’t know what he thinks, but there are no legal grounds to ban or punish the ribbon. Like last year, on May 9, I will come out with the St. George ribbon. If the authorities do something illegal, we will sue”Dodon said.

He also expressed readiness, if necessary, to reach international courts. According to Dodon, in this case, the Moldovan authorities will definitely be punished for violating human rights.

Recall, earlier, Prime Minister Dorin Recean said that citizens in Moldova on Victory Day would be fined for wearing the St. George ribbon. According to him, the Interior Ministry is preparing “all the necessary regulations and will announce how they will document and sanction those who do not comply with the law.”
