Former foreign minister arrested in Pakistan

In Pakistan on Thursday night, the vice chairman of the opposition Tehreek-e-Insaf party, the former Foreign Minister of the country, Mahmoud Qureshi was arrested.

It is noteworthy that the opposition party published an appeal by Qureshi, in which he called on supporters to continue the protests, RIA Novosti reported.

Recall that the former prime minister was detained on the morning of May 9 in the capital of Pakistan. The court of the country recognized the arrest as lawful. According to local media, Khan will remain under arrest for at least four days.

After that, his party began to agitate supporters to come out to protest. Demonstrations are taking place in major cities across the country.

In March of this year, the Pakistani police also made an attempt to detain Khan. To do this, law enforcement officers stormed his residence.

After the arrest of Khan, who is accused of land scams, supporters of the politician staged protests that turned into riots.

In the Punjab province alone, protesters destroyed more than 25 government police vehicles and attacked 14 government buildings. More than 130 police officers were seriously injured, data on the victims among the protesters are not given. A total of 945 protesters were detained in the province.

Pogroms also swept through the province of Peshawar. According to police, the rioters attacked police officers, destroyed public property, vandalized and set fires. However, only 30 people were detained.
