Russian airlines applied to the Civil Aviation Agency of the Ministry of Economy of Georgia and asked for permission to start flights to the country. This was reported by the Georgian department on its website.
The Office reports that a decision will be made separately for each application submitted. The current status of the airline in the light of international sanctions or restrictions will be studied in detail.
“Permits for flights will be issued in accordance with the above principle”the department said.
It is not specified which companies turned to the Georgian authorities.
Recall that Russian President Vladimir Putin canceled the visa regime for Georgian citizens from May 15. According to the decree, the ban on flights by air carriers of the Russian Federation and the sale of tours to Georgia is lifted. In addition, Georgian citizens, in accordance with the document, can enter Russia without a visa for up to three months.
Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that the resumption of flights to Georgia and the abolition of visas is a humanitarian decision.
