“Our organization decided on the basis of the current situation, when no candidate is gaining 50% of the votes, to hold the second round of the presidential elections on Sunday, May 28th. This will be the first time in Turkish history.“, – said the head of the CEC.
He revealed that by 15:15 the current President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, had won 49.51% of the vote, while his main rival Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu had 44.88%. The third running candidate, Sinan Ogan, was supported by only 5.17% of voters.
It is interesting that Muharrem Ince, who withdrew his candidacy three days before the elections, but was present on the ballots, gained 0.44%.
The final turnout was 88.92%. The votes cast in the country have been fully counted, but the CEC will have to count about 35,000 more ballots from citizens who voted abroad.
