On May 28, for the first time in the history of Turkey, the second round of presidential elections will be held in the country. This is during a press conference. confirmed Ahmet Ener, head of the Turkish Central Election Commission.

Our organization decided on the basis of the current situation, when no candidate is gaining 50% of the votes, to hold the second round of the presidential elections on Sunday, May 28th. This will be the first time in Turkish history.“, – said the head of the CEC.

He revealed that by 15:15 the current President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, had won 49.51% of the vote, while his main rival Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu had 44.88%. The third running candidate, Sinan Ogan, was supported by only 5.17% of voters.

It is interesting that Muharrem Ince, who withdrew his candidacy three days before the elections, but was present on the ballots, gained 0.44%.

The final turnout was 88.92%. The votes cast in the country have been fully counted, but the CEC will have to count about 35,000 more ballots from citizens who voted abroad.

Earlier, Erdogan expressed hope to win in the first round, but for this he needed to gain 50% plus one vote.
