On May 16, Institute staff published an open letter announcing the arrest of Doctor of Technical Sciences and Principal Investigator Valery Zvegintsev. He was accused of treason. The scientist has been under house arrest since 7 April.
It was also reported that the head of ITAM, Alexander Shiplyuk, was sent to the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center in August 2022. His arrest took place a few days after the arrest of the institute’s principal investigator, Anatoly Maslov. He was suspected of transmitting data on hypersonic technologies to China.
Reuters reported that Shiplyuk and Maslov have been developing hypersonic missiles for more than 10 years. They presented the first experimental sample in 2012 in France.
