According to journalists, lawsuits were filed against 16 people in the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. One of them died in prison after being arrested.

In Russia, three scientists involved in the construction of hypersonic missiles were arrested by security forces on charges of treason. The Russian edition of The Moscow Times writes about it.

It is reported that they all work at the Novosibirsk Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (ITAM). On May 16, Institute staff published an open letter announcing the arrest of Doctor of Technical Sciences and Principal Investigator Valery Zvegintsev. He was accused of treason. The scientist has been under house arrest since 7 April.

It was also reported that the head of ITAM, Alexander Shiplyuk, was sent to the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center in August 2022. His arrest took place a few days after the arrest of the institute’s principal investigator, Anatoly Maslov. He was suspected of transmitting data on hypersonic technologies to China.

Reuters reported that Shiplyuk and Maslov have been developing hypersonic missiles for more than 10 years. They presented the first experimental sample in 2012 in France.

According to journalists, in the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, lawsuits were filed against 16 people, including the former president of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Asaev and the head of the laboratory of quantum optics technologies at Novosibirsk State University, Dmitry Kolker. It was recorded that Kolker died in a pre-trial detention center in Moscow after being arrested by the FSB.

The publication writes that the President of the Russian Federation first announced the creation of hypersonic weapons in the Russian Federation in 2018. In his speech to the Federal Address, the head of the Kremlin introduced the Kinzhal hypersonic missile system. He stated that existing and even promising air defense systems will not be able to hit him.

Recall that on the night of May 16, the Russians used six X-47M2 Kinzhal air ballistic missiles, Kalibr cruise missiles and Shahed-136/131 unmanned aerial vehicles to destroy the Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems in Kiev.

The press service of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation officially announced that on the night of May 16, the Kinzhal missile system allegedly destroyed the American Patriot anti-aircraft missile system located in Kiev. Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine officially announced that the enemy fired a total of six Kh-47M2 Kinzhal missiles at Ukraine, all of which were destroyed by air defense systems.

Then CNN reporters reported that the Kinzhal missile could only hit the Patriot air defense system. Experts assess the amount of damage to understand whether it is possible to repair the air defense system on the spot. There are two Patriot complexes in Ukraine, one awarded by the United States, the second by Germany and the Netherlands.
