In hiding for over 20 years: man accused of killing 2,000 people arrested (photo)

The United Nations Chief International Tribunal declared Kaishema guilty of genocide against the Tutsi people in Rwanda. To get information about him, the United States assigned $ 6 million.

A former law enforcement officer who killed 2,000 people in South Africa has been detained. He’s been on the run for over 20 years. It is reported by CNN.

Fulgens Kaishema is accused of organizing the killing of more than 2,000 Tutsi refugees – women, men, children and the elderly – at the Nyange Catholic Church. He’s been on the run since 2001.

The man was detained on Wednesday (May 24th) during a joint operation by South African authorities and UN investigators.

The accused initially denied that he was the wanted person, but eventually confessed and said, “I had been waiting for arrest for a long time.”

Investigators say Kaishema has been using forged documents all these years to avoid exposure.

Serge Brammertz, Chief Prosecutor of the UN’s Residual Mechanism of the International Criminal Courts, said: “Fulgens Kaishema has been a fugitive for over 20 years.

In July 1994 Kaishema fled to the Democratic Republic of the Congo with his wife, children and son-in-law. He later moved to South Africa and in 1999 applied for asylum in Cape Town using forged documents.

In 2001, the United Nations’ International Chief Tribunal declared Kaishema guilty of the genocide of the Tutsi people in Rwanda in Kivume, Kibuye province.

What Genocide and Kaishema are Accused of in Rwanda

The events in Rwanda were one of the most brutal genocides, according to experts, around 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Huts were killed in 3 months.

According to the investigation, Kaishema was directly involved in “the planning and execution of this massacre.” According to the case file, on April 15, 1994, he and his accomplices killed more than 2,000 refugee men, women, the elderly and children at the Nyange church in Kivumu.

Kaishemo was directly involved in the planning and execution of this massacre. He bought gasoline and set the church on fire with the refugees, and when the building didn’t burn, he and his accomplices bulldozed the church, burying the people still alive under the rubble.

Later, the assailant and his accomplices moved the bodies from the church grounds to mass graves.

The killing of people in Rwanda ended 100 days later, when Rwandan Patriotic Front troops led by Paul Kagame defeated the Hutu rebels and took control of the country.

Recall that the court’s decision to two law enforcement officers in the case of the murder of 5-year-old Kirill Tlyavov will be appealed, as the Prosecutor General’s Office found it unjustified.

Former police officer Vadim Tekhov from Russia was sentenced to 16 years in prison for murdering his ex-wife. He came to her at work and attacked her with a knife. The man who fought as part of the Wagner PPK has returned home and now holds half the city in fear.
