Swiss intelligence described spies from the Russian Federation as a threat because of the country’s membership in the UN Security Council.

Swiss intelligence will block the transfer to Russia of goods that can be used for authorized military activities and the war in Ukraine.

The threat of Russian espionage increases with Switzerland’s membership in the UN Security Council. This is stated on the website of the Swiss Federal Council.

In the report, experts from the Swiss Federal Intelligence Agency (FIS) pointed out that the level of foreign espionage threat is high. First of all, this concerns Russia and China because of the all-out war in Ukraine.

In Europe, Switzerland is one of the states with the largest number of Russian intelligence officers working under diplomatic cover, in part because of its importance as a host country for international organizations. The membership of a European state in the UN Security Council increases the threat of espionage for Swiss persons responsible for UN Security Council files and issues. This also applies to representatives involved in making decisions and presenting these findings to the public and to committees.

The purpose of the FIS is to prevent the transfer to Russia of goods that it can use for authorized military activities. The Russian Federation is using companies in the Eurasian Economic Union, Turkey and India for procurement, monitoring activities should be extended to regions that received little attention in the past.

In its analysis, Swiss intelligence points out that a full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops “accelerated the trend towards a more bipolar world in the future”. ” and Beijing and Moscow want to transform the status quo, rules and regulations of existing institutions. The report states that Russia has lost its importance as a global player and has become dependent on China.

Recall that in May, Norway Postsen reported that Russian spies are trying to get mini-submarines of the ROV type in Norway. The three were operating in Norway under diplomatic protection, but were actually working for the Russian GRU.
