A woman who allegedly won the lottery was stripped of her prize after an argument with a roommate resulted in the couple being accused of cheating.
Sandra Jean Crow, 63, from Iowa, glowed with happiness as she handed over a Candy Cane Crossword scratch card ticket to claim her winnings. She won the biggest lottery prize of November 2022.
However, police say the woman is not the real owner of the $30,000 lottery ticket. They claim to be acting as a “front” while receiving the winnings. This was done to hide the real winner to avoid forced payment of debts.

The next month the problems started. Police teams arrive at the scene of the conflict to resolve the conflict that reveals the real winner.
According to court documents obtained by The Courier, the person who bought the ticket was Crowe’s roommate, Elvin Hans Larsen III. The woman falsely claimed she was the winner because she feared that if the man took the money herself, she would have to use the earnings to pay off her outstanding debts, including the $919 she owed to the city of Evansdale.
According to court documents, the arriving police officers overheard their roommates arguing about winning the lottery.
Allegedly, the woman said, “I cashed the check. I had no right to take the money. She begged me to take the prize so she wouldn’t have to pay her debt.”
Crowe was later alleged to have changed his story, telling the cops that the ticket was a gift from Larsen. But when officers questioned the man about the win, he denied it, saying the couple was trying to make the most of it. The American added that an argument broke out between them because of Crowe’s refusal to pay him the agreed share.
The incident resulted in both Crowe and Larsen being charged with the felony charge of lottery fraud.
