The injured woman’s son said that his mother was in a hurry to fly, suddenly tangled in a suitcase and falling heavily, causing irreparable injury. Now the whole family is praying for the next surgery.
A 57-year-old woman in Thailand lost her leg while traveling. At the same time, a tragic event occurred at the airport. This was reported in the Express edition of July 1.
A Thai passenger was taking a morning flight from Don Muang International Airport in Bangkok to Nakhon Si Thammarat province. A woman traveling with luggage along the passenger conveyor in one of the terminals fell and tripped on a mechanism that began to crush her leg muscles, tendons and bones.
While some were trying to find the emergency switch in a panic, the incident was observed by other passengers, but it was too late. Doctors who arrived at the scene immediately cut off his left leg above the knee to pull him off the track and take him to the hospital. There, surgeons tried to reattach the limb, but immediately noted that it is unlikely to restore the mobility of the leg.
The son of a 57-year-old woman criticized airport officials for refusing to hand over CCTV footage. He described this tragedy as “heartbreaking” for the whole family.
“When I first met my mother, especially after the incident, I felt like a child. The doctors held a styrofoam box on her feet as she got out of the ambulance. She separated from my mother in a wheelchair. It’s a feeling I can’t describe,” he said.
She describes her mother’s condition as depressed, unable to accept the fact that her life has changed dramatically. Everyone understands that they will not be able to bring the leg back, but they will try to save his psychological state. The family tries to arrange a meeting with a group of psychologists to deal with the incident.
“My mother was crying not because of the pain but because she couldn’t imagine life with one foot. Therefore, we avoid talking to her at the airport as much as possible about the incident. We hope there are no signs of infection. And this is her last surgery,” continued the son.
Airport Manager Don Muang Karun Tanakuljirapat offered his sincere condolences, saying that engineers are trying to find the cause of the accident. The injured rails had been in use since 1996 and were scheduled to be replaced in 2025.
Airport management has also promised to cover all medical expenses and is ready to negotiate other compensation.
Recall, on 1 July it was reported that the Chisinau hitman was wanted by Interpol for the murder of an “influential person”. He was accompanied by two wanted persons during the incident.
