In Slovakia, the Communist Party showed a portrait of Joseph Stalin during the congress, after which law enforcement officers opened a criminal case. This was reported in the non-profit organization (NPO) Post Bellum SK.
It is noted that an application with a request to investigate the communists filed in mid-June. The congress itself was held at the end of May, where the participants put up a banner with several portraits on the stage, including Stalin.
Representatives of the NGO Post Bellum SK were outraged by the display of the image, which they saw as “support and propaganda for groups whose actions are aimed at suppressing fundamental rights.”
After that, according to the statement of the NGO in social networks, the police “began criminal prosecution in the case of showing sympathy for the movement aimed at suppressing fundamental rights and freedoms.” The Slovak edition teraz.sk clarified that now the police are investigating all the circumstances of the incident.
