Paris does not understand the UN’s unsubstantiated accusations of racism by the French police. This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country.

On July 7, the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) called on the French authorities to fight systemic racism in law enforcement. In addition, the UN demanded to punish those responsible for the murder of a 17-year-old boy in Nanterre.

In response, the French Foreign Ministry said that they did not understand why the Committee did not show solidarity with the authorities affected by the actions of the rioters. The UN accusations were called “excessive” and “unfounded”.

“We express our incomprehension due to the lack of solidarity and sympathy towards the elected persons or representatives of the French institutions who have become the target of the attacks,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

They drew attention to the fact that 800 police and firefighters had already suffered from the violence of the demonstrators. The brutality of the protesters, as emphasized in the Foreign Ministry, has already been “forgotten” in the UN, while supposedly racism continues to worry the organization.

Recall that the riots in France broke out after the events of June 27. On this day, in the Parisian suburb of Nanterre, a policeman stopped a car with a 17-year-old teenager at the wheel. He asked the young man to leave the salon, but was refused. In response to this, the law enforcement officer took out a weapon and shot at the young driver point-blank.

Since then, there have been protests every day. Demonstrators overturn and burn cars, throw firecrackers and rob shops. Entrepreneurs have already stated that they have suffered losses in the amount of more than a billion euros, and during the protests, demonstrators looted more than 500 stores. To protect order, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic brings up to 45 thousand policemen to the streets of French cities. About 3.6 thousand people were detained, a third of whom were minors.

On July 5, the head of the French Interior Ministry announced that the riots that had raged in France for a week had ceased throughout the country. However, he stressed that the police are still on high alert.
