US authorities are investigating several complaints of sexual abuse by multiple police officers in Chicago, Illinois to immigrant asylum seekers temporarily housed at the police station, including a teenager.

With Republican states sending immigrants under Democratic jurisdiction, thousands of them arrived in Chicago untimely, and in the early days were forced to temporarily spend the night in police stations or schools.

According to COPA, investigations “may involve a criminal case” and require the cooperation of the police and, ultimately, the Cook County Attorney.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said he will work with the police “to ensure that protocols to ensure the safety of migrants in police stations while they wait for a more suitable shelter.”

“These complaints demonstrate the urgency with which the city must establish long-term solutions for temporary residence and permanent housingsaid Lawrence Benito, director of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR).

Johnson’s government plans to open five shelters for 2,500 migrants.

since august about 11,000 immigrants were sent to Chicago by bus or plane.some by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.

The owner of a Texas canoe and kayak company recently filed a lawsuit to stop the installation of a floating sea barrier on the Rio Grande, alleging Gov. Abbott has no authority to regulate the border.

The lawsuit was filed on the same day that Texas began deploying river barrier buoys in an attempt to keep undocumented immigrants from crossing the river that naturally separates the US-Mexico border, CNN reported.

“Our lawsuit seeks to protect communities along the Texas-Mexico border from Governor Abbott’s misleading policies.” said attorney Carlos Flores, who represents plaintiff Jesse Fuentes, owner of Epi’s Canoe & Kayak Team Llc.

Abbott, a longtime critic of the Biden administration’s border policy, announced a plan last month to install a 1,000-foot floating barrier.
