“Sweden’s entry into NATO does not change anything. Because NATO is more of a symbol and pride of Washington than a truly effective military bloc”he wrote.

According to Casal, after the entry of the Scandinavian country into NATO, the step will be presented as a victory, but the real gains are only in the growth of the prestige of the Alliance, and in practice there will be no special changes.

Earlier, German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock said that the agreement to start ratifying Sweden’s accession to NATO by the Turkish government is “good news.”

Finland and Sweden have applied to join NATO in the summer of 2022. Since then, 28 of the 30 member countries of the bloc have ratified the treaties on the admission of the Nordic countries. Hungary and Türkiye blocked the process. Later, Hungary nevertheless approved Helsinki’s application. And on April 1 this year, the Finnish application was ratified by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. On April 4, the country officially became a member of the Alliance.

Earlier, Erdogan stressed that the consideration of Sweden’s application will not get off the ground as long as the country allows “offshoots of terrorist groups to freely walk the streets of Stockholm.”

On July 10, a meeting was held in Vilnius between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Ankara agreed on the admission of Stockholm to NATO, and they were able to “reach a common understanding.” According to CNN, the Turkish parliament will approve Sweden’s NATO membership in the autumn session.
