During the flight, an uncontrollable man began to threaten other passengers. It forced the crew to change their flight path and return to the airport. The perpetrator was shouting and arguing with the flight attendants.
An “extraordinary incident” occurred in the middle of a flight from Sydney Airport. One of the passengers was arrested for allegedly taking the plane “hostage” and forcing the crew to turn the plane. The Daily Star writes about it.
The incident occurred on Monday, August 14. Malaysia Airlines Flight MH122 was in the middle of the road from Sydney to Malaysia.
An uncontrolled passenger who said he had “something dangerous” in his bag during the flight forced the crew to change their flight path via New South Wales and return to the airport, where the plane was already waiting for police.
“AFP (Australian Federal Police) is responding to the emergency at Sydney International Airport,” a police spokesperson told 9News.
After the incident, a 45-year-old passenger, whose name has not been released, was arrested and taken into custody.
“He unzipped his backpack, put his hands in it, and started threatening that there was something dangerous in it, and then he screamed at the top of his lungs,” said one eyewitness.
A social media user who said he was on the plane at the time wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that the passenger was “threatening staff and passengers”. In a series of videos posted on this platform, an alleged troublemaker is seen arguing with flight attendants in the aisle of an airplane.
One of the video’s captions reads, “Sydney Airport is suffering at the hands of this lunatic who took #MH122 hostage. We pray for everyone’s safety and well-being.”
The plane left the airport at 1340 local time today (Monday 14 August) and returned to the runway in 1547. The plane is currently at the end of the runway and there are emergency vehicles near it.
Police confirmed that the plane was completely evacuated and “not a threat to the public”.
Previously Focus reported that the pilot landed the plane in the middle of a busy road during rush hour traffic. Due to the unexpected appearance of the aircraft, traffic was disrupted in both directions, and medical teams were dispatched to the scene.
It was also learned that the plane made an emergency landing to arrest a passenger. Blake Perkins, who was on board, posted several videos of the event on TikTok. In one of the videos, the man wrote that the flight attendants did not allow the woman to “drink wine”.
