Georgia is a key state in Trump’s struggle for power

Georgia was the record state for Democrat Joe Biden over Republican Donald Trump in the 2020 US election.Roux played a key role in the then president’s efforts to stay in power, earning him a fourth indictment.

Biden won there with just 11,779 votes, with 49.5% of the vote in his favor.: It was the first victory for a Democratic presidential candidate in that state in nearly three decades since Bill Clinton’s victory in 1992.

Although both governors Republican Brian Kemp, as well as then-Georgia Secretary of State, also conservative Brad Raffensperger, confirmed the victory. the outgoing president refused to accept defeat here or elsewhere in the country.

A phone call Trump made to Raffensperger on January 2, 2021 to pressure him to find enough votes to change the outcome of an election there, which the official refused, led to a criminal investigation that landed Trump back in court.

“I just want to find 11,780 votes, one more than we have, because we won the state.”, the now former president told the then Secretary of State, according to a leaked recording of the conversation.

Four days later, the Capitol was stormed in Washington by a mob of Trump supporters, and Biden’s election victory was ratified.

Fulton County District Attorney Fanny Willis launched an investigation in February 2021 into possible interference by Trump in the Georgia election.

In February of this year, the special grand jury assigned to this case published in part the conclusions of their reportrecommending possible charges after verifying that there was no electoral fraud in that state and that “one or more” witnesses may have lied under oath.

On July 17, the Georgia Supreme Court denied Trump’s request to remove evidence collected by this special grand jury about his attempts to overturn Biden’s victory in that state.

The decision of the nine judges of this court was unanimous and did not take into account the motion to remove Attorney Willis from the case.

The former president wanted the findings of this special grand jury not to fall into the hands of the grand jury elected on July 11, which had the right to charge him with electoral interference, as it did.

Trump went to the state’s highest court without waiting for a decision on the matter from the Fulton County Supreme Court, which ruled along the same lines as the Supreme Court in late July and also indicated that Trump’s demands were not supported.

With a criminal charge for this, the former president is already getting a four. Earlier this month, a grand jury in Washington, D.C., indicted him on four counts of allegedly trying to overturn the 2020 result.

In addition, in New York, he received this type of indictment, with 34 charges of allegedly bribing the pornographic actress Stormy Daniels, with whom he had an “affair” in the past, in order to buy his silence during the 2016 election campaign.

His other criminal case is in Florida, where he is charged with 40 counts of illegal theft and possession of classified documents from his Mar-a-Lago mansion, which he took from the White House after leaving office.
