Turkish special services have detained a new defendant in the case of the murder of Russian Ambassador Andrei Karlov. Law enforcement officers detained the wife of the attacker, who was liquidated at the scene of the crime, Hurriyet newspaper reports.

The police told reporters that the woman is a member of the FETO organization, which is accused of attempting a coup in 2016. The figurant was detained in Istanbul.

The police also searched the detainee’s apartment. Details of the investigation and other additional information are not given.

Recall that Andrey Karlov was shot dead on December 19, 2016 during the opening of the photo exhibition “Russia from Kaliningrad to Kamchatka through the eyes of a traveler.” The attacker was a police officer. He was eliminated by the security forces. The Russian Ambassador to Turkey was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Russia.

28 suspects were charged with his murder. Among them was US-based cleric Fethullah Gülen. He did not admit his guilt. In March, an Ankara court handed down a verdict in the case of Karlov’s murder. Five of the accused were sentenced to life terms. Eight received from three years and nine months to 15 years in prison. Six more were acquitted.
