The Indian lunar rover “Pragyan” transmitted to Earth the first data from the Moon, the soil of which unexpectedly turned out to be hot. This is reported by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

The Chandra surface thermophysical experiment measures the temperature of the upper layer of the lunar soil around the pole to indicate the temperature regime on the surface of the satellite.

According to the transmitted data, the surface temperature of the south pole of the moon is 70 degrees Celsius. Prior to this, experts believed that it could be from 20 to 30 degrees.

This is surprisingly higher than we expected.“, – quotes the news agency Press Trust of India words of ISRO staff member Bee Darukesh.

In addition, according to Indian scientists, rock outcrops have been discovered near the south pole, which can tell a lot about the formation of the moon.
