The European Union is not in a position to completely abandon the purchase of Russian liquefied natural gas. About it “Izvestia” reported in the Permanent Mission of Russia to the EU.

“Despite Brussels’ efforts to find additional volumes of liquefied gas, its supply on the world market is limited. Refusal of Russian LNG could lead to an increase in gas prices in the European market”– said in the diplomatic department.

The permanent mission also noted that a significant part of gas supplies from Russia to the EU is made on the basis of long-term contracts. Their failure to comply could result in serious financial consequences for the Europeans.

In addition, most EU countries do not support the abandonment of Russian LNG. Now members of the association are considering the possibility of granting individual countries the right to impose restrictions at the national level.

Earlier it was reported that the European Union plans to import a record amount of LNG. According to analysts, the top 3 leaders in Russian gas purchases are China, Belgium and Spain.
