The conflict between the nuclear powers could escalate into an open military confrontation in the Asia-Pacific region. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Ryabkov.
According to him, the accumulated conflict potential between the nuclear powers has led to an extremely acute crisis in the Euro-Atlantic region.
“It threatens to escalate into an open military confrontation in the Asia-Pacific region“, Ryabkov said at the seminar “Strengthening the Nuclear Nonproliferation Regime” in Bishkek.
The Deputy Foreign Minister stressed that the NATO countries have staked on the assertive development of territories in the zone of Russia’s interests. The forceful pressure of the West on the Russian Federation, in turn, is dangerously “teetering on the brink” of a direct armed conflict between the nuclear powers.
Earlier, US human rights activist Ajamu Baraka said that the decision of Western leaders to enter into open conflict with Moscow was a huge disaster.
