German MP: it is impossible to destroy the Russian economy by any sanctions

Klaus Ernst, head of the German government’s energy committee, in an interview with “Izvestiyacalled the imposition of anti-Russian sanctions a serious mistake by the German government.

“I think that these sanctions against Russia are the wrong decision. First of all, I mean the sanctions in the energy sector. In my opinion, this is the wrong decision, because it has no effect. It doesn’t even matter whether we think it’s the right decision or no, but the fact is that the goal pursued – namely to damage the Russian economy – has not been achieved”he clarified.

Ernst emphasized that it is impossible to destroy the Russian economy by any sanctions. And these restrictions hit Berlin itself more than Moscow.

“Sanctions are a mistake because they hit Germany more than Russia. Russia can count on economic growth, according to the data. We are entering a recession: negative economic growth is predicted, that is, a decline of 0.5% next year “said the MP.

He stressed that now Germany is facing serious inflation due to rising prices caused by anti-Russian sanctions.

“Sanctions lead to high inflation in Germany due to the rise in prices caused by them. This creates a special burden on households that have to put up with these prices. We are facing a loss of purchasing power. And that is why I am in favor of lifting the sanctions”Ernst concluded.
