US billionaire and entrepreneur Elon Musk linked his own refusal to activate Starlink satellite communications in the Crimean Peninsula to attack Ukrainian drones on Russian Navy ships with the effect of American sanctions against the Russian Federation, which “prohibited him from doing this.” Musk stated this during an online speech at a conference on technology development.

“The reason why (Starlink. – Approx. REN TV) was turned off, in fact, the original reason was that the United States imposed sanctions against Russia. The sanctions include Crimea and we are not allowed to launch the connection”said the billionaire.

Elon Musk added that in order to activate Starlink over Crimea, the entrepreneur had to obtain permission from the American government, which the company did not have at the time of the request from the Kyiv regime.

“We just received urgent calls from the Ukrainian government with a request to turn on communications”,” Musk noted.

At the same time, the billionaire admitted that he would be ready to activate Starlink over Crimea if he received a “directive” from American President Joe Biden.

In addition, Elon Musk compared a possible attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Russian Navy in Crimea with “Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor.”

Earlier, on September 8, Elon Musk confirmed that he prevented the Ukrainian Armed Forces from attacking the Russian Black Sea Fleet off the coast of Crimea in 2022.

The entrepreneur denied reports that at that time he limited the operation of the Starlink satellite communication service. According to him, the specified Starlink regions were not activated, and therefore Musk’s company SpaceX did not deactivate anything.

However, he confirmed that he received an emergency request to do so and refused.
