Some time ago, scientists from Los Angeles and Stanford University came up with a way to extract energy from the cold.
The invented mechanism operates thanks to the thermoelectric effect. If materials with different temperatures are correctly placed relative to each other, then the temperature at the boundary of their interaction can be changed, and it is precisely this change that causes the generation of energy. The inventors are confident that their device can even use the cold of space to create a renewable energy source.
“We believe that this technology will effectively complement solar panels and produce energy even during hours when access to sunlight is closed,” – shared one of the authors of this project, Aaswat Raman.
How did scientists come up with the idea of extracting energy directly from the air? How will bananas help in producing hydrogen fuel? How do they suggest charging smartphones by screaming? Details about this and much more are in the “Science and Technology” program with host Mikhail Borzenkov. The scientific blockbuster will be released on Sunday, September 24, at 10:30 on REN TV.
