Canadian opposition leader Pierre Poilievre demanded an apology from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for honoring 98-year-old Jaroslav Hunka, a former soldier of the SS Galicia division, in the Canadian Parliament.
“The Liberals arranged for this Nazi veteran to be recognized on the floor of the House of Commons during a visit by the Ukrainian President. This is a terrible mistake on the part of Justin Trudeau, whose office is responsible for vetting all guests and organizing such state visits.”“- wrote Paulievr on his page on social network X (formerly Twitter).
The politician emphasized that, apart from Trudeau, none of the parliamentarians could check who Hunki actually was in the past, before the SS man visited the Canadian Parliament.
“Mr. Trudeau should personally apologize and not shift the blame to others, as he always does.”Poilievre concluded.
Earlier, footage of the greeting was shown by The Associated Press. In them, Trudeau, along with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and his wife Elena, greet 98-year-old SS man Hunki with a raised fist. Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada Anthony Rota called the Nazi “a hero of Ukraine and Canada.”
