Moscow considers Yerevan’s accession to the Rome Statute an unfriendly step, said Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Mikhail Galuzin.
“We consider the accession of our ally Armenia to the Rome Statute… an absolutely unfriendly step. I see no room for dialogue here,” – quotes him as saying RBC.
Galuzin noted that Russia was counting on Armenia’s refusal to ratify. After all, you can turn to the services of the ICC without ratifying the Rome Statute.
In addition, the ICC has long turned into a politicized Western structure that has nothing to do with justice. And now it is used only to criminally prosecute people who are disliked by the West, the diplomat clarified.
Earlier, Russian State Duma deputy Alexei Chepa called Yerevan’s ratification of the Rome Statute a political step towards the West.
Let us remind you that on October 3, the Armenian parliament voted to ratify the statute. 60 deputies were in favor, 20 were against. The opposition parties “Armenia” and “I Have the Honor” boycotted the discussion of the issue and emphasized that the adoption of the document has nothing to do with the interests of the country.
