Checking continues: Russian taxi service Yango may leak FSB data

According to journalists, an investigation by the authorities showed that personal data collected by the Yango taxi service was transferred to the Russian Federation.

Yandex-owned Yango taxi service has been subject to scrutiny in connection with the possible transfer of data from European customers to the FSB. Dutch authorities launched an investigation into this situation. Bloomberg reports this.

“We can confirm that we have opened an investigation into Yango,” a representative from the Dutch data protection authority told the agency.

Yango taxi service is actually part of the Russian company Yandex. It has recently been investigated under European Union data protection rules.

Dutch authorities were alarmed by concerns about the new law, which came into force on September 1. The law is controversial because it gives Russian authorities access to information processed by taxi companies.

Yango said it was cooperating with Dutch authorities to demonstrate compliance with local laws, especially regarding data storage and transfer abroad.

In early August, Finnish authorities ordered Yango to stop transferring all passenger data to Russia.

“The authorities’ investigation showed that personal data collected by the Yango taxi service was transferred to the Russian Federation,” the Finnish regulator said in a statement.

He also suggested that the FSB would have access to this data. The investigation by Finnish authorities is still ongoing.

Let us remind you that Jan Marsalek, the former head of Wirecard in the UK, is suspected of espionage.

It was also reported that Bulgarian spies working for an agent of the Russian special services were detained in the British Isles.
