Bringing Beijing to the summit is vital to supporting the Ukrainian peace formula.
The Chinese delegation will probably not be able to attend the meeting of national security advisors to be held in Malta this weekend. The summit will bring together more than 55 countries to discuss support for the Ukraine peace formula. Bloomberg reports this.
According to the publication’s sources familiar with the situation, the list of participants includes G7 countries, Qatar, South Africa, India and Turkey. Brazil and Chile are expected to attend the summit online.
Sources also said Ukraine plans to hold another meeting before the end of this year. Bringing Beijing to the summit is seen as very important in supporting the peace formula.
China’s participation is given such importance because it is thought to be one of the few countries that can influence Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Meetings similar to the summit to be held in Malta were held in Denmark in June and in Saudi Arabia in August. China sent a delegate to the August summit in Jitta.
This series of meetings is seen primarily as an opportunity to present Ukraine’s views directly to countries neutral to the Russian occupation, and especially to countries in the Global South. The participation of these countries is seen as the basic condition for organizing the summit.
Still, one source said it was essential and beneficial to continue to engage with skeptical countries, even if progress was slow.
Let’s remember that Xi Jinping said that China is ready to cooperate with the United States. According to the PRC leader, the “correct” path of relations between Beijing and Washington will be decisive for the world.
Previously Focus He wrote that China’s neutral position creates concern in the European Union. According to the head of European diplomacy, the EU also saw Putin as a reliable partner until the war started.
